The ivory saree with the black beaded border

This one is not a costume. Aishwarya Lekshmi wore it out in Chennai in the first week of September 2026 — she was photographed leaving a hotel in daylight and again that evening on a wet red carpet — and she does not wear it in any film. We could not establish which event the evening carpet belonged to, so this page does not name one.

There are two garments and nothing else, which is the whole point of it.

The saree is a warm ivory — cream rather than white, closer to the colour of unbleached silk than of paper — in a smooth matte crepe that drapes like liquid and never once catches a highlight. The body is completely plain. All the decoration is one narrow band, about four centimetres wide, running the full length of the pallu edge and along the lower hem: black faceted beads set in dense rows, with a fine looped picot fringe on the inner side. In daylight it reads as a flat black stripe. In the evening frames, close up, you can see it is beadwork and not sequins and not printed — each bead throws its own small point of light. It is worn in a plain modern drape, pleats forward, the pallu pinned flat over the left shoulder so the black band cuts across the body as one clean diagonal line.

The blouse is the same ivory, in the same matte crepe. It is sleeveless with a high funnel collar that stands up and folds softly over at the top — the armhole is cut away hard, all the way up to the neckband, so there is no shoulder seam at all and the shoulder is fully bare. Cropped. That collar is the piece of the outfit that makes it modern rather than traditional, and it is the detail to shop for.

If it looks familiar, it should. This is the silhouette Deepika Padukone wore to the Jawan press conference in September 2023 — an ivory georgette saree with a black sequin-encrusted border and a halter-neck blouse, credited to Sabyasachi and styled by Shaleena Nathani. Aishwarya Lekshmi's is not that saree and nobody has said it is; it is the same idea, done in beadwork instead of sequins and with a standing collar instead of knots at the back.

No label has been credited for either of her pieces. The photographer's caption names nothing, the one outlet that ran the look named nothing, and we are not going to invent a designer to fill the gap.

Three things are deliberately missing from the list below. Her sandals are black and thin-strapped and that is honestly all any frame gives — nothing shows whether they are flat or heeled. Her wrist changes between the two sightings, a watch in daylight and a fine line bracelet in the evening, so neither belongs to the look. And the earrings are small bright studs that never resolve into a shape.
