The red wrap dress

This is not a costume. It is what she happened to be wearing walking off a small chartered aircraft onto the apron, in a clip that runs for under three seconds before the account that posted it cuts to a product card. Three seconds is enough, because the whole outfit is one garment.

The dress is a true red — a clean primary red, not a wine, not a rust, not a scarlet leaning orange. The bodice is a knit with a proper folded shirt collar, worn open, over a deep surplice wrap that crosses left over right and closes at the natural waist. Short set-in sleeves that end above the elbow. From the waist the skirt is gathered into close vertical pleats and falls full to mid-calf, and in the frames where the wind catches it you can see how much cloth is in there — it swings well clear of her legs rather than following them.

We know exactly what it is. It is Tommy Hilfiger's Polyester Wrap Neck Dress in Medium Red, and the collar is what proves it: a polo collar on a wrap dress is an unusual enough combination that it rules out almost everything else, and the brand's own catalogue photograph matches the screen garment on the collar, the crossover, the sleeve length, the waist seam and the pleating of the skirt. It is still on sale on Tommy Hilfiger's own India store.

A note on the price, because the clip that made this look travel gets it wrong. That video prints ₹8,425 across the frame. ₹8,425 is the MRP. On the day we checked, the same listing on the brand's own India store was selling at ₹4,212 — half of it. Both numbers are on the card below, labelled.

Two more things she is wearing. A tan leather shoulder bag, structured, with a flat strap worn over the right shoulder and a flap closing over a buckle at the front; no brand is legible on it in any frame. And small oval sunglasses with dark lenses in a slim light metal frame — again, a shape, not a brand.

Her shoes are not on this page, on purpose. The skirt covers her feet in every usable frame. There are white sandals in shot, but they are on another woman walking behind her, and putting them here would be a guess wearing the costume of a fact.

We have also not named the event. The aircraft, the apron and the hills behind it are not identifiable, and nothing published ties her to a named date or place in this dress. We would rather leave it blank than invent it.
