GULABI DORI
Our pick under ₹2,300 — mustard kurti and palazzo set with ivory trim
Lookalike of the piece Priya Bhavani Shankar wore.

Of everything on the high street this is the one that reads right, because it gets the two things that actually carry the look: the mustard is the same mustard, not a turmeric or an ochre, and it runs the same ivory trim vertically down the panel seams. It is a cotton blend with a band collar, three-quarter sleeves and side pockets, and it comes with its own palazzos. Three differences worth knowing before you buy. It buttons up — band collar and a three-button placket — where hers has a pointed shirt collar and hangs completely open, so you lose the long vertical break down the front. It stops above the knee where the original runs to the calf. And its palazzos are mustard to match, not ivory, so the two-tone contrast that makes the original read as two garments is gone. Worn open over a white or ivory wide-leg trouser you already own, it gets closer to the original than the photograph suggests.
