A lead across Hindi, Telugu and Tamil cinema since the early 2000s — Tujhe Meri Kasam (2003), the Tamil Boys the same year, then Bommarillu (2006), which won her a Filmfare award, and Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na (2008). She stepped back from acting after marrying Riteish Deshmukh and returned in the Marathi film Ved, which he directed. In 2025 she played opposite Aamir Khan in Sitaare Zameen Par and then took a corporate boss role in the bilingual Telugu-Kannada Junior. At Indian festival events she tends to dress in regional handloom rather than couture, and to let one plain weave carry the whole look.
