The navy floral organza cape set

This is not a costume. Mamitha Baiju does not wear this in Vishwanath and Sons — it is what she wore to the film's audio launch on 2 August 2026, on a stage carrying the film's Tamil title and its "in cinemas 14th August 2026" release card.

For once we can tell you exactly what it is. The outfit is Mishru's "Avi cape set", and the label's own product page prices it at ₹68,700. Mishru describes it as a multicolour wildflower organza pleated cape with a matching wildflower bustier and skirt — three pieces, made to order, and the colour is officially navy blue. That matters, because on camera under stage lighting it reads almost black. It is navy.

What you are looking at is the cape doing all the work. It is floor length, sheer dark navy organza, worn open with no closure, with elbow-length gathered sleeves finished in an embroidered cuff band. Down both front edges runs a wide band of appliqué flowers — magenta and crimson petals, lilac and purple blooms, cream and champagne star flowers, sage-grey ferns — each one outlined so it sits proud of the organza rather than printed flat into it. The same appliqué covers the fitted bustier underneath, and below that the skirt is completely plain: high-waisted, fluid satin, soft gathers falling straight from the waistband to the floor, no embroidery and no slit.

The jewellery is spare and deliberately silver rather than gold. Long chandelier drops — a dark stone at the top, a pale pavé-framed cluster in the middle, then a large oval emerald-green cabochon in a pavé frame at the bottom — and a single-row tennis bracelet of clear baguette-cut stones on her right wrist. There is no necklace at all; the neckline is left bare.

So how do you get near it. The pieces below are our own picks from the high street and none of them claims to be the Mishru set. The whole point of the shape is one patterned topper worn open over something plain, and that is a shape you can genuinely buy — and buy in one go: a three-piece co-ord that gives you the open floral jacket, the plain black crop and the black wide-legs together, so no two pieces can arrive in slightly different blacks. Then the two pieces of jewellery that carry the look. Every card says where it differs from what is on camera.

One thing is honestly missing, and we would rather say so. Her shoes are not listed, because the skirt is floor length and not one frame in any of the footage reaches the floor. There is nothing there to identify, and a guessed shoe would be worth less than an admitted gap.
