The orange Polo Ralph Lauren linen shirt

This one is not a costume. It is a photoshoot — Mammootty leaning on a red Mercedes-AMG, in an orange linen shirt, white linen trousers and orange sneakers. We could not establish when or where it was taken, so this page does not name an occasion.

What we can name is the shirt, because he is wearing the label. Freeze the frame and the navy Polo Ralph Lauren pony sits at the left chest, exactly where a pocket would otherwise be — and there is no pocket. The collar is a button-down, with a small white button holding each collar point. The placket is plain, the buttons are pearl-white, the sleeves are long and rolled to just below the elbow, and the whole thing is cut relaxed and worn untucked and open at the neck. Polo Ralph Lauren's orange linen shirt is on Farfetch at $336, listed as 100% linen with a classic collar and buttoned cuffs, and its flat shot has the same button-down collar, the same left-chest pony and the same absence of a pocket.

The trousers are warm white linen, relaxed and straight, with a pressed front crease and the hems turned up once. Celebrity Style Board, whose clip carried these photographs, identifies them as Ralph Lauren's "Lateef" relaxed-fit pleated linen trouser in Ceramic White, which is live on Ralph Lauren India at ₹35,300. That is plausible and the shape agrees, but we are not going to call it confirmed: the one detail that would prove it — the elastic drawstring waist, and the pony embroidered on the back waistband — is covered by the shirt in every single frame. So take it as the source's identification rather than ours.

The shoes are worth describing even though they are not in the list below. They are bright orange low-top lace-ups, seven pale eyelets a side, orange laces, a cream gum sole and an orange-and-white gingham panel at the heel — the loudest thing in the outfit and the reason the whole look reads as deliberate rather than casual. No logo is readable on them at any zoom, and nothing on the Indian high street came close enough to be worth a price, so we have left them off rather than sell you an approximate orange trainer. The gold-rimmed aviators, the gold bracelet watch and the ring are off the list for the same reason.

One note on the source, because the same clip is circulating widely. It intercuts these photographs with airport footage of a different man in a similar orange shirt. None of that footage is used here, and nothing on this page is an airport sighting.
