The Imaye Imaye yellow saree

A plain butter-yellow saree with a broad cream border — the whole look is one drape

Regina spends most of "Imaye Imaye" in one saree, and it is about as plain as a saree gets. Butter yellow, no print, no zari, no work of any kind on the body — the whole thing is one flat colour in a very light, very sheer fabric that moves like air and goes slightly translucent wherever the light comes through it from behind.

What stops it being anonymous is the border. A broad band of cream, closer to ivory than white, with a soft satin sheen against the matte of the body. It runs the length of the drape and reads clearest across the chest where the pallu folds back on itself — on the rooftop it is the only part of the outfit still catching light once the city behind her has gone dark. That one contrast band is doing all the work the print and the zari would normally do.

The blouse is the same butter yellow as the body, short-sleeved, with a plain round neck. No contrast, no piping, no border carried over from the saree. It is meant to disappear into the drape, and it does.

Two things are deliberately missing from the list below. She wears small stud earrings and a thin band on her right wrist, and neither ever resolves enough to say what it is made of. Guessing either would be the easiest way to get this page wrong, so neither is here.

A note on the light: the bedroom scenes are graded distinctly cool and blue, and the rooftop is lit only by the city. The colour above was read from the frames where the light is closest to neutral, and cross-checked across both settings.

The piece below is a lookalike, not the original. This costume was made for the film and was never sold; the entry notes where it differs from what is on screen.
